Overview
SmartNews, an award-winning local news app brings quality stories to the world using algorithms that delivers the top 0.01% of stories that matter most, right now. To extend the features and services that deliver localized content, SmartNews leveraged AccuWeather’s API and RSS Feed to provide hyper-localized forecasts and relevant weather content.
Solution
- SmartNews mission is to deliver the world’s quality information to the people who need it. The SmartNews team recognizes that not only weather, but forecasts with proven Superior Accuracy™ is a part of the localized experience that users need and want. Users are looking for the most accurate weather forecast to help them plan their day efficiently and effectively.
- Within the SmartNews app, users receive the information that’s important to them. SmartNews integrated weather into the header of the app because it is vital information their users need throughout their day.
- Senior Product Manager, Adeed Choudhury, stated “AccuWeather’s data API has been a key part of our local weather reporting to SmartNews users. SmartNews is focused on providing users with the best local news and information they need to make better decisions in their daily life. Nothing is more critically local and timely than what’s happening with the local weather. AccuWeather has been a great partner in helping meet the data needs our product designers and engineers have in building the right features for our users.”
- Within the SmartNews application, users have access to high and low temperatures, hourly forecasts for the next 12 hours, minute-by-minute precipitation forecast with AccuWeather’s proprietary MinuteCast®, and weather radar for greater situational awareness. Additionally, users can access the trending weather articles written by AccuWeather journalists, as well as watch the latest video to stay informed on what’s happening in their neighborhood or around the world.
- AccuWeather’s forecasts are easy to understand so users can make the best decisions whether it’s planning for a sunny day or making critical decisions in severe weather events.
Results
- “SmartNews offers a US local weather product with a best-in-class user experience because of data supplied by AccuWeather. By leveraging AccuWeather’s MinuteCast, SmartNews users can easily see, down to the minute, how long until rain or other precipitation begins and when it will end. This kind of critical daily information is vital to the SmartNews mission of keeping our users informed and engaged with the world around them,” says Adeed Choudhury.
